Children and Youth Minister (Job Opportunity)

East Barnet Baptist Church (EBBC) is looking for someone dynamic, creative and passionate about Jesus to join our lively church in North London. EBBC is a growing vibrant multicultural church seeking to appoint someone with proven experience to join our Leadership Team and help us grow and develop our ministry among the children and young people.
This is a Part-time role (20 hours per week).

The Children and Youth Minister will take responsibility for the smooth running of all ministries related to the children and young people of the church and the wider community. This will include the following:

• Build and develop our ministry to children and young people in our church and local area
• Work with existing facilitators and provide support and opportunities for training
• Promote and encourage the integration of children and young people throughout church life
• Provide oversight for all work with children and young people
• Participate in Leadership Team Meetings
• Establish mutually beneficial links with other practitioners and organisations e.g. schools, N Flame etc.

We offer you the opportunity to be part of a great team, working with an experienced Minister, facilitators and volunteers. We offer a salary up to £12,375 per annum.

Children and Youth Minister (Job Description)

East Barnet Baptist Church is a growing vibrant evangelical multicultural church. A Children and Youth Minister is required to oversee and enable Pastoral ministry as part of a Leadership Team, especially but not exclusively, among the children and young people. The church’s vision for Children and Young People is “Encouraging Growth”. (Luke 2: 52)

Job Overview

Reports to:                      Team Leader and Leadership Team

Responsible for:              Children and Young People work including the management of Facilitators (Volunteers)

Hours of work:                Normally 20hours per week including evenings and weekends

Salary :                            £12,375

Main Responsibilities:

The Children and Youth Minister will take responsibility for the smooth running of all ministries related to the children and young people of the church and the wider community. This will include the following:

  • Build and develop our ministry to children and young people in our church and local area
  • Work with existing facilitators and provide support and opportunities for training
  • Promote and encourage the integration of children and young people throughout church life
  • Provide oversight for all work with children and young people
  • Participate in Leadership Team Meetings
  • Establish mutually beneficial links with other practitioners and organisations e.g. schools, N Flame etc.

General responsibilities:

  • Attend the weekly Sunday Celebrations
  • Attend the weekly staff meeting
  • Attend the District Baptist Ministers’ meeting every two months
  • Attend the annual London Baptist Association Conference
  • Attend the annual Baptist Union Assembly
  • Other duties in agreement with the Team Leader

The successful applicant will be:

  • A committed Christian, baptised as a believer, who has a passion and ‘calling’ to children and young people ministry
  • Able to relate to children and young people with different needs and to explain the Christian faith in ways which encourages interest and stimulates growth
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated with good time management skills
  • Able to work in a team and have an appreciation/passion for multicultural and inter-generational church
  • Experienced in children and young people’s work
  • In agreement with the Statement of Faith of the Evangelical Alliance

Essential Qualifications:

  • A good track record of working with children and young people
  • Effective leadership and communication skills
  • A great pastoral heart for children and young people
  • Full sympathy and support for the Church’s Statement of Faith and Vision
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Self-motivation and great enthusiasm for discipling children and young people
  • Police DBS check
  • Thorough knowledge of safeguarding of children and young people

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Appropriate qualifications for the role
  • Can play a musical instrument
  • Good computing skills
